Blue Ecology Principles

It costs nothing to change our attitude, yet we stand to gain the world. When you change your attitude, you unlock your creative potential, lead by your actions, influence those around you, and inspire hope!

What’s in an Attitude

An attitude is a collection of values, theories, philosophies, beliefs, and principles, that motivate and influence your actions.

Blue Ecology™ believes in humanity’s great collective potential to find climate change solutions by adopting a more respectful attitude towards nature. The core of this attitude change is represented by the key principles of Blue Ecology™.

5 Principles to Care for Mother Earth

Indigenous elders taught five principles to their children as an ethos for taking care of Mother Earth. These five principles are shown in this Circle of Life diagram and stand at the core of Blue Ecology™.

Respect

We show respect through reverence in our attitudes and behaviours. A lack of respect for nature has dire consequences. We can see the evidence of this in the climate change crisis we are facing today. Reviving ancient ceremonies to show respect for Nature, sensing the spirit, and letting Nature heal itself, can help stop the destruction of Mother Earth. We should take no more than Nature can provide and be mindful of our impact on the overall balance of Nature.

Balance

Unrestrained use of natural resources has led to our problems of pollution, scarcity, and global warming. Blue Ecology™ proposes that we approach our precious natural resources with measured withdrawals, restoration, monitoring, and giving-back ceremonies that revive respect and restraint, taking only what we need and giving back to achieve balance.

Spirit

All of Mother Earth’s resources have a spirit, flowing across borders like water, uniting us all. When we treat these as mere commodities for consumption, we risk the health of our ecosystems, each other, and all living things.

Unity

Feeling connected through the spirit in all living things is universal. Nature connects cultures and ecosystems through our common reliance on our planet. Unity is required if we hope to restore balance to the earth and fight climate change together for our survival.

Harmony

Maintaining peace and harmony between humanity, the elements, and nature is at the core of traditional Indigenous beliefs. By honouring these principles with tangible actions (such as implementing healing zones) we help nature and humanity rediscover a peaceful relationship so they can move forward together, in balance.
